  • Habitat for Humanity and Olivet Lutheran Church are teaming up to offer the French Island Fall Fix-Up on Saturday, November 14, 2026.

    French Island homeowners and renters may apply for help with FREE small home projects that improve energy efficiency, accessibility, and safety. There are no age, disability, income, or church-membership requirements.

    Examples of possible projects include:

    Installing weather stripping, door sweeps, window insulation film, or caulk

    Replacing incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs

    Replacing furnace filters or programming thermostats

    Tightening handrails or installing properly anchored grab bars

    Adding anti-slip stair treads, nightlights, or brighter lighting

    Installing or replacing smoke and carbon monoxide alarms

    Exterior work, painting, carpeting, major plumbing, full duct cleaning, licensed electrical or HVAC work, and projects that cannot reasonably be completed in one day are not included.

    Up to 15 households may submit an application. We expect to select 5–10 households, depending on available funding, volunteer skills, project costs, safety, and the amount of work requested.

    Submitting an application does not guarantee that work will be completed. A two-person assessment team must first visit the home to determine whether the requested work is safe, within the event’s scope, and possible with the available volunteers and funding.


    PLEASE NOTE: Applicants must be available for a 30-minute home assessment on either October 14 or October 17. Selected applicants must also be home while volunteers are completing work on November 14.

    Applications are due Sunday, October 4, 2026, unless the 15-application limit is reached earlier. Residents who need help completing the application may call (608) 785-2373 ext. 119.
